Basseterre, St. Kitts – GLENVILLE ISLES of Upper Market Street was sentenced to 20 years hard labour, today, Dec. 14, for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, Fleurette Williams of Lower Monkey Hill.

Isles was convicted unanimously, by a 12-member jury on Nov. 23 for shooting Williams in the wee hours of the morning on Dec. 27, 2010 at her home.

The trial was prosecuted by Crown Counsel, Garth Wilkin who called a total of six witnesses to support the prosecution’s case.

According to the evidence presented in court, Williams was asleep at the time, and after the incident she was taken to the JNF Hospital where she was treated for her injury.

The unrepresented man during the trial told the court that he was innocent and was not at the scene of the crime and called three witnesses to support his case.

At his sentencing he said before the court that it was a very serious offence, and he does not think there is anything he can say to appease the seriousness of the crime. He said he would like His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas to consider his age and that it was the first time he was involved in a crime of that nature.

It was revealed that Isles has 13 previous convictions but of a different nature.

The social inquiry report which was prepared by Probation Officer Wingrove George said that Isles and Williams were together for four years and that they lived together.

The report said the crime was heinous and unprovoked and that Isles has a cold senseless demeanor about the incident.

The maximum amount of years in prison for attempted murder is 25.
Justice Thomas said that the victim suffered serious physical and permanent damage to her face and is seriously handicapped and that her face is deformed.

“You did this to the woman who gave you shelter and her body and fed you for some four years; you deserve no mercy!” said Justice Thomas just before he sentenced Isles.
