BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WYCLIFFE LIBURD, the man suspected of murdering Charles Benjamin Matthew, alias 'Abaloo', was formally charged and remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

On Friday, April 18, 2008 at about 11:20 a.m., Matthew was shot and killed at the junction of Shaw Avenue and Cunningham Street, McKnight.

Police were called to the scene and the District Medical Officer pronounced the 32-year-old dead.

A few days later police indicated that they had a number of persons in custody who were arrested on suspicion of murder and were assisting with the investigations.

SKNVibes.com understands that those persons have since been released.  They also indicated that Wycliff was “a person of interest” in the investigations and issued correspondence to that regard.

~~Adz:Right~~On the night before Wycliffe turned himself in at the Basseterre Police Station, members of the Strike Force and the Special Services Unit were reportedly in the vicinity of The Gardens after receiving information that suggested he was in the area. The operation proved fruitless.

Liburd, seemingly after hearing that he was wanted by police, turned himself over to them on Tuesday, and according to a police press release, sometime on Thursday he was arrested and charged with Matthew’s murder.

Yesterday, Friday, April 25, 2008, Wycliffe appeared before the court and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison where he is awaiting a trial date.

Police indicated that Barbadian Pathologist Dr. Stephen Jones conducted an autopsy on Matthew’ remains yesterday and informed that he died from haemmorhage and shock caused by gunshot injuries to the chest and abdomen.

Charles Benjamin Matthew is the seventh murder victim recorded in the Federation for the year.
