BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE body of the late Tau Sadiki Gowon Jr. was laid to rest on Friday, April 25 following a “Home-going Service” at the Word of Life New Testament Church on Central Street.
The service, officiated by his uncle Bishop Ron Dublin-Collins, drew a large number of family members and friends as well as curious onlookers, as final respects were paid to the young man who lost his life during a stabbing incident at the junction of Market and Central Streets on Friday, April 18.
As mourners reflected on the short years Gowon spent on the face of this earth, several tributes were paid by close relatives, including his father, Tau Gowan Sr. and also members of the St. Kitts Marriott Room Service Team of which he was a part.
Gowon, who was 26 at the time of his death, leaves to mourn his mother Cleo Francis, his father Tau Gown Sr., grandmother Mary Francis, along with three brothers and eight sisters.
~~Adz:Right~~ According to a police release, Resident Pathologist Dr. Jesus De Brock performed an autopsy on Gowon’s remains and indicated that he died of “hemopericardium”, which is the presence of blood or bloody effusion in the pericardial sac (a double-walled sac that contains the heart and the roots of the great vessels).
Less than 24 hours after Gowon’s death, the man who allegedly stabbed him, Bishu Isaac of Shear Lane, went to the Basseterre Police Station in the company of his lawyer and turned himself in. He has since been charged with Gowon’s murder.
Gowon’s death marks the eighth homicide committed in the Federation over a four-month period.
