Press Release

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, December 6th, 2011 -- The East Beautification Committee (EBC) continues its recognition of property owners in the East End, Long Look and Hope Estate communities. The most recent recipients of this recognition are Messrs Melvin Pickering of Vanterpool Estate and Isaac Stoutt of Old Plantation.

    STOUTT
Mr. Stoutt has been a gardener for over 60 years and specifically enjoys planting flowers which relaxes and rejuvenates him.  He loves to see a good garden and believes in keeping his surroundings clean.

“A man should be thankful for what he has and keep it clean.  When I get up and look around and see something needs to be done I jump on it.  I keep round and round the house clean; both front and back.”

Highlighting his wife’s contribution to the garden he said, “My wife and I live on this property for over 30 years and she helps me a lot as she waters the garden for me.  I am also assisted by a gardener who’s worked with me for several years.”

Mr. Stoutt appreciates the encouragement from the community as it keeps him motivated.  He encourages others to follow suit as it’s a most rewarding job.

    PICKERING
Mr. Melvin Pickering’s home sits on a nice plot which is trimmed low and has a variety of plants, herbs, tea bushes and vegetables planted in the area.

Mr. Pickering is a big believer in planting items that produce food.  He says this lowers his grocery bill as he hardly has to buy certain seasonings, fruits and vegetables. “With all of this yard space, I must plant food.”
He is motivated by his neighbors and encourages more persons to become in involved.

Messrs Pickering and Stoutt are the two newest recipients of the East Beautification Committee Best Kept Yard Award. The rotating banner sat for one week at both properties.
