ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, December 15th, 2011  – The Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark Vanterpool toured Brewers Bay to Ballast Bay yesterday with representative Honourable Alvin Christopher to ascertain the infrastructural concerns affecting the district, including issues of drainage, flooding and road development.

“The purpose of the tour was to hear the concerns from the district representative and to take note of his suggestions to solve some of the vexing infrastructural problems,” Honourable Mark Vanterpool told the Department of Information and Public Relations.

The Minister said, “Of particular concern was the Ballast Bay issue where culverts do not have the capacity to manage the water that flows off of the mountain which results in extensive flooding, compromises the hillside and undermines the road.”

Minister Vanterpool further stated, “It is for that reason that we are considering alternate mitigation measures that will allow the water to flow freely into the ghut.”

Also, on the tour was Acting Permanent Secretary Mrs. Arlene Smith-Thompson and the Acting Director of Public Works Dr. Drexel Glasgow who also noted the concerns of the representative and contributed ideas to solve the problems.

The second district tour is one of several tours that the works Minister has taken to get acclimated with the infrastructure concerns facing the Territory.

The Ministry of Communications and Works remains committed to developing the Territory’s public infrastructure.
