MCW Minister affirms commitment to water & sewerage staff

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, December 15th, 2011 - Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark Vanterpool shared his vision regarding the future development of the Water and Sewerage Department while affirming his commitment to provide the staff with good working conditions, necessary equipment and comparative pay.

    Minister Vanterpool made these statements during a staff meeting held at the Water and Sewerage Department on Tuesday, December 13. He was formally introduced by the Acting Permanent Secretary Mrs. Arlene Smith Thompson.

     

    The Minister shared the Ministry’s vision for the enhancement of the department stating, “Water and sewerage impacts every person’s life in the Territory, it is important for us to function optimally. Our job is to find the best way possible to please our customers. We have a lot to do in a short space of time and we want you to know that we will put in place the structures needed to accomplish our goals. I want you to know that you have my full support.”

     

    During his message, Minister Vanterpool encouraged the staff to join forces with him to ensure that customers are happy with the services provided.

     

    “We want to make sure you are very well equipped to do your jobs. We will work as a team to ensure by the end of each year, our ministry shines and shines the best of all ministries by having the fewest complaints while providing the best services,” the Minister said.

     

    At the end of his message Minister Vanterpool opened the floor for questions. Key questions included the condition of the Water & Sewerage Depot on Virgin Gorda, staff increments, safety concerns especially for the sewerage crew and ideas for efficiency.

     

    Honourable Vanterpool disclosed to the gathering that he wants both the Water and Sewerage Department and Public Works Department to shine.

     

    “I have a game plan, so that when I start to play the game coming January I want the team to be ready and you are big part of that team, so be ready to work,” Minister Vanterpool exclaimed.

     

    The Water and Sewerage Department is responsible for providing a continuous supply of safe potable water and an environmentally sound sewerage disposal service to all residents of the Virgin Islands at affordable rates.
