Press Release

ROADTOWN Tortola, BVI, December 16th, 2011  – The Civil Registry and Passport Office’s Civil Registry Information System (CRIS) Web site is now available to the public.

CRIS was developed to address the needs of a modern Civil Registry, using technology to provide new services to the public while simultaneously reducing the Registry’s workload, increasing efficiency, and improving data accuracy and audit capabilities.

The Web site is currently in its testing phase and members of the public can assist with this phase by visiting www.crisvi.gov.vg.The Web site is a source of “one-stop” shopping for the public that facilitates online data entry and retrieval, which allows for the printing of forms, and applications to be submitted electronically.

Additionally, persons are able to request certified copies of birth, death and marriage certificates by performing an electronic search that allows the applicant to collect the certificate from the Registry without any further paperwork or searches performed by Registry staff.

Registrar-General Mrs. Stephanie Benn speaking to the Department of Information and Public Relations explained , “The website is scheduled to be launched in March of 2012, and leading up to that time we are encouraging the public to visit the website to request services so that we can make any improvements that are needed before the launch date.

Mrs. Benn added, “The office will also be launching its new secured/electronic Belonger Card System in March of 2012 and additional information will be communicated on that process in due course.”

The implementation of the CRIS is another sign of Government’s commitment to improving customer service in the public service by extending e-government initiatives to vital services.
