    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, December 12th 2011 - Markysa Krisan Javen O'loughlin (born October 3rd 1991), is honoured and elated to be a part of Sugar Mas 40/40 through her participation in the National Carnival Queen Pageant!

     

    She lives by the watchwords "that we are young only means we have the most to lose by standing idle". In this regard, Markysa has lead a very active life!

     

    Markysa is a scholar! She earned her first academic achievement at age 10 when she became her primary school’s valedictorian. Subsequently, she was Cayon High School's (CHS) class of 2007 valedictorian. Markysa completed high school with 12 CSEC subject passes, eight distinctions and earned a Chamber of Industry and Commerce excellence award. She graduated from the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) with honours and is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Management Studies.

     

    Markysa is an environmentalist! She played a very active role as a member/ambassador of the UNESCO funded Small Island Voice "Backchat" since 2005. Her involvement with "Backchat" has allowed her to travel regionally and internationally to advocate for environmental issues and sustainable development.

     

    Markysa is a musician! Her tenure with the "Cayon Pantastic Steel Orchestra" as lead bass player was key for the band winning three St. Kitts Tourism Authority Panorama's as well as placing 5th in the U-16 OECS Junior Steel Pan Competition in 2006.

     

    Markysa is an athlete! She captained a number of CHS' netball teams and in 2006 she was declared the "Best Defensive Player" for the U-16 St. Kitts Nevis and Anguilla National Bank (SKNANB) High School's Netball League.

     

    Markysa is an activist! The genesis of her humanistic spirit began in high school, where she participated in a number of community outreach initiatives; At CFBC, Markysa was the president of the CFBC Heritage Society. Markysa remains socially conscious and vocal about the things that concern our society.

     

    Markysa loves to cook! With a mother who is a great cook it’s hard not to have a love affair with food. Her favourite meal is mash green banana with steamed fish and vegetables - she thinks that life would have no meaning without it!

     

    Ultimately, Markysa always strives to be her best and at age 20, she is preparing herself for the challenges that await the 21st century young woman. She has her eye on several prizes and will remain passionate yet humble in achieving her goals.
