Safety Measures for Children During the Carnival & Holiday Season

Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, December 21st, 2011  --  The incidence of Child Abuse and Neglect in St. Kitts and Nevis continues to be of grave concern in the Federation.

A significant minority of children is still being violated by the persons who are expected to secure their innocence and their rights, therefore, the Probation and Child Protection Services is strongly urging parents and guardians to be vigilant in their supervision of their children during Carnival and the holiday season.

The Department of Probation & Child Protection Services wishes to remind parents and guardians to exercise due care and attention regarding their children.
    •      Do not leave children unattended.
    •      Know the whereabouts of your children at all times, especially during the carnival activities.
    •      Report any observation of abuse or neglect by other parents or guardians to the Police or Child Protection Services.

Let’s all help to make this Christmas and Carnival season a healthy, safe and memorable one for our children by promoting the Rights of the Child to be safe and protected.
