BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE owner of Indulgences, situated opposite the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College on Burdon Street, Basseterre, suffered heavy losses over the weekend as bandits broke into her ladies fashion wear store and stole a number of clothing and accessories.

Information reaching this media house states that thieves broke into Indulgences sometime between Sunday and Monday (Dec. 18-19) by cutting the hasp and staple of the door to the main entrance and removed items to the value of over EC$35 000.

According to one of the employees, on arrival at work on Saturday (Dec. 17), it was observed that someone had damaged the lock on the main door and management replaced it with a sturdier one.

It was reported that the store was secured at about 7:00 a.m. on Sunday but on arrival at approximately 9:20 on the following morning, employees found it was broken into and the wire to the alarm system cut.

They also found the store ransacked, over 200 clothes hangers scattered on the floor and missing were a large amount of clothing, perfumes, handbags, shoes and wallets as well as the cash register.

The matter was reported to the police and, according to Inspector Charles Smithen, Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Crime Scene Technicians were summoned to the scene and they dusted for fingerprints.

He noted that investigations led to the find of a half pair of shoes and the padlock, which was removed from the door, within an alley west of the premises.

Inspector Smithen also informed that they are currently following leads and may soon solve this case.

In recent weeks, criminals have been on the prowl and their most recent victim was B’s Service Station in Sandy Point, from where two armed, masked men robbed the business place of an undisclosed sum of money and fled the scene in a waiting car.

Five persons of interest were assisting the police in their investigations into this crime and SKNVibes learned that while some of them were released, a few others are still in custody.

And in November, thieves had been on a rampage in Central Street, Basseterre which forced one small business into premature closure after they cleaned out the store.

Among the businesses that were broken into and suffered losses are Juni’s Culture Shop, SK Fashions, Smart Fit and Steve’s Enterprise.
