Spanish Bar owner robbed of EC, US dollars

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A female native of the Dominican Republic was reported robbed of a sum of EC and US dollars after someone had entered her home in the wee hours of Monday (Dec. 19).

According to information reaching this publication today, which was confirmed by the police, Magdalena Abbott of East Park Range had left her home secured at about 4:00 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 18) to work at her bar, Mi Sitio, on Pond Road and Sebastian Street in Newtown.

After closing the bar she arrived home at approximately 1:30 the following morning and went to bed after ensuring that the building was secured.

However, some six hours when Abbott awoke, she reportedly discovered her handbag which contained over EC$2 000 and over US$200 missing.

Also discovered missing from her home were a lap top, a cellular phone, a gold ring and a number of travel documents.

SKNVibes learned that the matter was reported to the Basseterre Police Station and members of the Criminal Investigations Department had visited the scene but found no signs of forced entry.

According to the police, no one has so far been held responsible for the reported theft and investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, one man is in custody assisting police with their investigations into the December 8 robbery of Bobsy’s Restaurant and Bar in Frigate and the shooting at co-owner Lynne Hawley.

Speaking with SKNVibes on the following day, co-owner of the restaurant and bar, Michael ‘Bobsy’ Hawley said that approximately 19:35 on that night after his wife had closed the establishment for business, three masked, armed individuals dressed in black entered the building by jumping over the balcony.

Hawley explained that the men demanded money from his wife, who immediately complied. However, as the thieves lingered in the building and in regard to her personal safety, his wife fled into a room and locked the door.

Seemingly, her action infuriated the bandits who retaliated by discharging three rounds from their firearms into the door.

Fortunately, according to Hawley, his wife was not hurt.

He noted that the police were notified of the incident after the bandits had fled scene.

Hawley was in high praise of the officers from the Frigate Bay Police Outpost, who he said “responded promptly and were very professional in their investigations”.
