Press Release

THE VALLEY Anguilla, December 29th, 2011 -- In a last ditch effort to persuade the strong man Governor of Anguilla, Chief Minister Hubert Hughes sends a letter.

In the attached letter, the Chief Minister of Anguilla again pleads to Governor William Alistair Harrison of Anguilla to refrain from what on the island is calling a colonial conspiracy to distract, destroy and maim the small island by constantly working against the elected Government and people of the country.

Governor Harrison who assume the Gobernatorial role in April of 2009 after spending years in the foreign service. His prior role was High Commissioner of Zambia and also spent time in cold war countries such as the USSR and Poland. He comes with a record of destabalizing countries and was listed on the list of MI6 agents that the UK has around the world.

Since Hubert Hughes as assumed office, the Governor has done a number of questionable things on the island that has caused many protests, marches and public outcry. However, in visits to Anguilla by the Minister for the Overseas Territories, Henry Bellingham and subsequently, Colin Roberts, Director for the Overseas Territories, both have publicly supported the Governor and his actions. Both have said, "whatever the Governor does and whatever the Governor says, has the fullest support of Her Majesty's Government!"

This has left the island's people crying foul and the leadership without official support in London. Chief Minister Hughes has recently called on the people to seriously consider constitutional independence for the island. This call has been ramped up since the Governor sent a letter to the Constitutional and Electoral Reform Committee informing them that they can look at the constitutiton but they cannot touch. He has stated that the Anguillan constitution is, "fit for purpose!"

On December 13th, in a call by many for the Chief Minister to lead them in a protest against Governor William Alistair Harrison, the Chief Minister called for help in his quest to have a proper Governor on island. Below is a video of the last protest against this autocratic Governor which has turn Anguilla on its head.
