    HAMILTON Bermuda, December 29th, 2011 -- Shaunte is 17 years old and is a Honours Graduate from Saltus Grammar School. she has attained 10 GCSE's, 2 Advance Placement Credits, Credit in Clep Sociology and AS English.

     

    She is the daughter of Albert Simons and Marlene J. Flynn-Carty and the step daughter of Theresa Simons and Bobby Carty. Shaunte has one sister Deanne and one brother, Steve and step brothers and sisters, the closet of whom are Javaughan Carty and Tyresse Coakly. she is also a proud Aunty  to her latest nephew, kingston Rose.

     

    In a few days, shaunte will be departing Bermuda to study law at the University of west England, she plans to return to Bermuda to do her pupilage and be called to the Bermuda Bar. She anticipates years of successful practice which will qualify her to her end  goal which is to become a judge in the Bermuda Court system after establishing and working in her own law firm (S.S. Simons, Attorney & Barister at law). She hopes to attain all of this by time she reaches the tender age of 50 years old.

     

    At School, Shaunte was a member of various clubs and hold various position which kept her busy. She has held the very prestigious role of Senior Prefect as well as serving as one of the deputy heads in the Student  Council. She was a school mentor and tutor and wrote a column in the school newspaper.

     

    In the community,she is involved in an array of different activities and served in various community services. she was an active member of Bemuda Youth Parliament where she held the possition of Deputy Premier, Minister of Justice and Attorney General and more recently as leader of the Opposition.

     

    She served on the Bermuda Youth Peace Builders, She is a member of Bermuda's National Youth Council. She also achieved a bronze medal in The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

     

    In early March 2011, she was given the esteemed oppotunity as Team Leader and Lead Debater to represent Bermuda at the United Nations Youth Conference in New York, a very rare oppoyunity that some leaders of Countries are still hoping to acquire.

     

    Shaunte is the Liturgical dancer and Sunday school teacher. She has done over 400 hours of community services serving in places such as the office of the Chief of Staff Office of the Bermuda Hospital Board, in schools, Children Nurseries, Church, Office of the Attorney General and at Youth Net to name a few.

     

    Wherever there is a need and providing she can squeeze the time she gives back to her community, something that she believes more young people should do.

     

    Shaunte says she has no strengths of her own because it is in God that she lives, breathe and have her being. Shaunte said if there was one thing she did not want in life, it would be NOT to be as busy as her mother who is always giving of her time and being a shoulder to lean on.

     

    She has however discovered that she become busier than her mother and realizes now that it starts with the state of your heart. Shaunte says that as much as she wanted to go the opposite way of being busy, she is glad that she discovered that she has a heart to give and this has certainly paid off in more ways than one.

     

    On Sunday 7th August, at the Miss Teen Bermuda Island Competition, Shaunte received her first crown for the night, Miss Sweet Charities 2011 and she also received a financial Award for her charitable work.

     

    On that same night, Shaunte went on to win the most coverted title in the competition and was crowned - Miss Teen Bermuda Islands 2011 - and will represent Bermuda at the International Level in St. kitts in December.

     

    Shaunte will tell you that she wears the crown in honour to God first and as a teen role model to Bermuda and the rest of the world. I do not take the oppotunity that God has afforded me lightly and to the organisers and judges I say' Thank you and to God I give all the GLORY!
