Press Release

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, January 6th, 2012 -- Prime Minister Tillman Thomas continues his efforts to bring an amicable end to the industrial impasse at the Grenada Breweries Limited, with a meeting on Saturday of some of the leading business, religious and NGO community in Grenada.

The Prime Minister said Friday, that the ongoing impasse, if allowed to drag on, can have a devastating impact on the Grenadian economy, which for the first time since the global economic meltdown, is showing growth.

Representatives of the Grenada Employers Federation (GEF), the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GCIC), the Grenada Evangelical Association, the Grenada Conference of Churches and a number of non government organizations have been invited to attend the Saturday morning meeting.

“We understand the possible impact that industrial action can have and is having on our country just as we are beginning to see signs of economic recovery. We must do all in our power to ensure that this impact in minimized by getting the workers back on the job and the manufacturing capacity in Grenada is restored,” the Prime Minister said Friday.

Mr. Thomas called on all sides to “let good sense prevail”; suggesting that the prolonged industrial impasse at the Brewery can also impact small businesses which sell the company’s products to sustain the livelihoods of many families.

He called on both sides to appreciate and respect each other’s contribution to the country.
