BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Needsmust Estate man suffered a broken limb after the vehicle which he was operating crashed into a utility pole.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:50 yesterday (Jan 9) evening. And according to the Traffic Department – which is carrying out investigations – the injured man is Dwight Huggins.

The Department explained that Huggins was travelling along the Island Main Road on motorcycle P3980 and the accident occurred while in the vicinity of Kittstoddart.

“Investigations revealed that the motorcycle was travelling from Basseterre to Conaree when it ran off the road and collided with a utility pole, breaking it in two.  The driver sustained a broken leg and multiple lacerations about his body. He was taken to the JNF Hospital by ambulance where he was treated and warded.”

And early this morning (Jan. 10), another incident occurred which is also the subject of the Traffic Department’ investigations. However, this did not result in serious injury.

The accident involved Gold View’s Cristine Getson – who was driving motorcar P4534 - and Christ Church’s Wycliffe Clarke - who was driving motor car PA4386 – and it occurred near the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB).

“Investigations revealed that (at about 7:20 am) PA 4386 was travelling towards Frigate Bay when it collided with P4534 which was travelling in the opposite direction and turning in to Kim Collins Highway. Both vehicles were extensively damage.”

The drivers, however, were transported to JNF after complaining of pains to their bodies. They were treated and discharged.

Drivers utilising the road networks across the Federation were issued a gentle reminder by the Traffic Department to drive with caution and vigilance.

“The Traffic Department again take this opportunity to remind drivers of their duty of care on the road and advise motorists to drive within acceptable speeds with due care and attention.”
