~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - JUST about 18 months after Michelle Weeks-Benjamin’s husband, his brother and others were charged with her murder, they are scheduled to stand trial at the Basseterre High Court before a 12-member jury.

The Benjamin brothers were jointly charged with Khoy ‘Red Rat’ Jeffers of New Road and Shervin ‘Squeaky’ George of Fort Street, Basseterre with the heinous crime which is believed to have been committed sometime between October 29, 2006 and November 1, 2006.

According to reports, alarms were sounded when Weekes-Benjamin failed to turn up for work at the National Bank on Monday, October 30, 2006 and subsequent investigations led to her remains being found in the incomplete septic tank of a building at Rose Mary Lane which was, at the time, under construction.

Scores of persons flocked the general area to the Rose Mary Lane building when word spread that a partially decomposed body was found, which was later identified as Weekes-Benjamin.

Leroy Benjamin Jr. and William Benjamin were the first to be arrested and they were followed by and Jeffers in that order. They were all arrested within the first two weeks following the incident.

This case is among 19 new cases to be heard during the upcoming assizes. These cases include another murder case of which Defence Force Soldier Louis Richards is the accused.

Richards is accused of the August 3, 2007 murder of Clyde Williams who resided in the Old Road area. The incident occurred in Williams’ home town and according to unconfirmed reports, the soldier was at a bar in the area liming with friends when shots were fired in his direction.

An autopsy revealed that Williams died as a result of complications from a gunshot wound to the stomach.  Richards was arrested four weeks after the incident occurred.

Other new cases listed for hearing during the May 2008 Assizes include three for shooting with intent, five for larceny and one case for attempted murder.
