Taking the love of Jesus to the street

Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts January 16th, 2012  - The entire congregation of the Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church recently littered the village of Tabernacle as they embarked on their first food basket and track distribution initiative for the New Year.

Smartly unformed Pathfinders and church members dressed in their field tee-shirtsvisited several members of the community in need with tracks, food baskets, words of encouragement and prayer.  Amongst the members of the community who received packages of love were an elderly woman of the age of one hundred and one (101) and an elderly man, ninety years old.

One group leader, Mr. Abendigo Rogers shared that, “It was a wonderful experience and we are happy for the opportunity to witness to others in a tangible way --- something the recepients would benefit from. We not only gave tangible food but we also gave them spiritual food, prayer and words of encouragement, which is vital for their salvation.”

Despite not being able to cater to as many persons as they would have preferred, several church members indicated that the experience was a rewarding one and more initiatives would be developed as a result of the success of the event.

“Once we decide to put our hearts into giving and serving, God will bless us, we don’t have to worry where the food will come from – God will provide as long as we are determined to relieve suffering in this way. God has no other hands but ours, no lips but ours, no feet but ours and all we have to do in order to be used is to make ourselves available,” said Mr. Mervin Williams, first elder of the congregation to his fellow church members after the distribution.

The Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church plans to execute other community service projects in the year 2012 because of their evangelical pact to minister to the needs of those closest to them, their friends in the community.
