Press Release

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, January 16th, 2012  – What do you think of the Virgin Islands’ existing relationship with the United Kingdom?

The public is asked to tune into ZBVI 780AM tonight at 9pm to voice your concerns on topics ranging from the Territory’s current challenges, cooperation with the UK and the quality of the VI’s good governance and financial management.

Assistant Secretary in the Premier’s Office with responsibility for External Affairs Ms. Najan Christopher, who is one of the panellists, told the Department of Information and Public Relations, “Government needs to hear from the people of the Virgin Islands in order to better inform the UK of our position on the relationship. Persons should take advantage of this opportunity in voicing their opinion on what the relationship should be like and how do they see the VI and UK working together.”

Ms. Christopher will be joined by Financial Literacy Coordinator at the Financial Services Commission Ms. Elise Donovan and Managing Director of Smith and Associates Ms. Shaina Smith.

As a British Overseas Territory, the VI is being invited to share its views on various issues affecting its relationship with the UK, which will be submitted to the UK for consideration with shaping the new White Paper which will set out the relationship with Overseas Territories.

Persons can contact Acting Information Officer II with the Premier’s Office, Ms. April Glasgow via telephone 468-2076 or email aglasgow@gov.vg for more information. Please tune in to share your thoughts and ideas in order to partake in this crucial process.
