Jiangyou, China- Following the 7.9 earthquake that hit central China on Monday at about 2:30 afternoon, most of the persons still being pulled from under piles of rubble are not being listed as survivors.

So far more than 12,000 persons were reported dead with rescue workers still working around the clock to get relief to survivors.

Relief efforts have been hindered due to the extensive damage the monster quake caused to the road system as well as from the debris from fallen buildings.

As many as 26,000 people were reported injured and over 3 million homes were destroyed with hundreds of thousands left damaged. Reports indicate that more than 25,000 people were trapped under rubble, mainly in Mianyang City, a few miles shy of the epicenter, Wenchuan county in Sichuan Province.  Persons had to be evacuated from buildings as far north as Beijing, some 900 miles from the epicenter. ~~Adz:Right~~

The most heart-wrenching images coming out of the earthquake ravaged area were those of toppled schools that reportedly had hundreds of children buried alive beneath the mass of collapsed wall and debris.

According to a report filed on CNN.com, a Chinese Civil Affairs Ministry official said his country “welcomed foreign donations of money and materials”, but it was not ready for outside teams of rescue and relief workers due to its transportation system not being able to handle the additional traffic.
