Press Release

Six Digicel customers and three charities win big in Cash Vault

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, January 17th 2012 – Christmas may be over, but the gift of giving continued over the weekend at the Bigger, Better Network. Saturday 14th January, 2012 marked the Grand Finals for Digicel’s Christmas Promotion where $25,000 was literally ‘up for grabs’ in the cash vault. Since the launch of Digicel’s Christmas Promotion ‘Grab $150,000 in cash and prizes’ on November 18th, 2011, Digicel customers have been winning tons of cash and prizes in the Digicel Cash Vault.

An energetic crowd of Digicel customers and fans assembled at Rum Barrel on Port Zante to be a part of the event, which saw six Digicel customers and three charities grabbing for $25,000 in the cash vault. Immediately after choosing their order of entry into the vault, each finalist was escorted to the inflatable vault by a Digi Girl. While in the cash vault, each customer grabbed for as much as they could within 20 seconds.

The excitement could be felt all around, as Juni Liburd and Mixxclusive Sounds kept the crowd well-entertained and lively.

Norris Sharry, winner of the Text to Win game for December won himself $2,205. A new postpaid Digicel customer, Miranda Francis, who signed up during the lifetime of the Christmas Promotion grabbed $1,450. Ajahdia Bass, a new BlackBerry customer grabbed $680 while in the cash vault. Delaci Jacobs and Jasmine Merritt, two prepaid customers, who spelled ‘GRABCASH’ by topping up their Digicel handset won $1,570 and $2,535, respectively. Postpaid customer, Sherlan Roland, was rewarded with $2,005 for paying 50% of his bill in December.

Some finalists wished they had grabbed more, but thanked Digicel for their winnings, remarking that they would use some of the cash to offset outstanding bills. “The Digicel Team is happy to award you our loyal customers in this way and is pleased that your winnings today will help to ease some of our financial burden,” said Marketing Executive, Jeanille Osborne, while congratulating each finalist.

In keeping with Digicel’s commitment to giving back to the Federation, three charities and organizations benefited during the Cash Vault Finals. AVEC, which has been adopted by Digicel, will benefit tremendously from the $2,315 which was grabbed by Keija Morris, President of the School’s Student Council. The MC for the evening, Juni Liburd, also entered the cash vault and grabbed $1,200 to be donated to the Wesleyan Holiness Church in Basseterre. Digicel’s Sales Manager, Jacinth Welsh, grabbed for cash on behalf of The St. Christopher Children’s Home and exited with $1,415. While in the vault, Welsh was cheered on by the children on the Home, who were invited to be a part of the event. Nicola Freeman, one of the children, thanked Sean Latty and Digicel for their kindness.

“From the inception of Digicel’s Christmas Promotion, close to seventy Digicel customers have won cash and prizes every Friday in our Cash Vault,” said Latty. Confident in the success of the Promotion, he remarked that “Our Christmas promotion has ended on a very high note today, with over $15,000 being won and I am very certain that what has been won today by each finalist will go a very long way. We are extremely happy to be able to give back to our customers and to three noble organizations in the Federation, The St. Christopher Children’s Home, AVEC and the Wesleyan Holiness Church, as we remain true to our commitment of giving back to the communities we serve.”
