BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - STUDIES came to an abrupt halt today [May 14] when a bomb threat was called into the Washington Archibald High School {WAHS], requiring students to be hurriedly evacuated from their classrooms.
“We didn’t know what was happening,” one student told SKNVibes as he and his peers passed the time under the afternoon sun on the playfield between WAHS and Beach Allen Primary School. “A teacher just came to our room and told us that we had to get out right away, and then they brought us all out here.”
Word traveled quickly amongst the student body that they were in danger as the assembled Police and Rescue Forces drove the students and teachers farther and farther away from the school.
“Around 1:00 p.m. someone called the school and said there was a bomb hidden inside and that they were going to blow the thing up. We immediately got the students outside and away from the building,” one teacher revealed. ~~Adz:Right~~
Police forces worked to block off the roads around the school, turning cars away from as far as the Olympic House while their specialists conducted their search of the building.
At approximately 1:35 p.m. the teachers of Washington Archibald High School dismissed their students for the day in order to allow the Police Force the proper time and space to conduct a thorough search.
At this time it is unclear whether the threat was genuine or if the call had been ntothing more than a prank. Police officials stated that they would release more information as it becomes available.
