    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, January 20th, 2012   – Her Majesty’s Customs invites the public to join the department in celebrating its14th Annual Customs Week from January 21 - 28, under the theme, “Borders Divide, Customs Connects through Compliance”.

    In explaining the significance of the theme to the Department of Information and Public Relations, Commissioner of Customs Mr. Wade Smith said, “We have affirmed our commitment once more to compliance with international standards in relation to border protection and trade facilitation,” adding, “The theme also speaks to dedication to uniformity in our performance.”

     

    The commissioner is inviting the public to participate in the information sharing activities which are designed to apprise all stakeholders of the very important role the Customs department plays in the development of the Territory.

     

    There are several planned activities. On Saturday the department will attend church services at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Road Town. On Sunday the department will host a luncheon at Treasure Isle Hotel and Restaurant.

     

    On the evenings of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, officers will participate in various games including dominoes, basketball and bowling, respectively.

     

    On Saturday, a special social will be held at Quito’s Gazebo Restaurant and Bar. The 10th Annual Customs Ball is scheduled for February 25 at Callaloo Prospect Reef. Entertainment includes The Razor Blades, DJ Bertrum and Cool Session Brass.

     

    Her Majesty’s Customs, included in the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance, is charged with the responsibility to safeguard the well-being and security of the Territory by facilitating legitimate trade, enforcing import and export regulations and conducting covert and overt surveillance of the Territory’s waters.
