By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SHOOTING victim Shakeem ‘Hotness’ Walters of West Street, Newtown is said to be paralysed and remains on the critical list at the JNF General Hospital.

According to well-placed sources, one of the two bullets had damaged Walters’ spine and “he is paralysed from the waist down”.

Sources also said that “his eyes are swollen shut and an ophthalmologist is scheduled to conduct an examination on his eyes”. This particular information was confirmed by his mother, Shermine Walters, when she spoke this morning (Jan. 21) to a journalist from SKNVibes.

It was also said by his mother that he has not lost his sense of speech, but "he cannot do so fluently".

This media house learned that a man is currently in custody assisting police with their investigations into this matter, but at press time no official word has emanated from the police to confirm this information.

However, in Winn FM’s evening newscast yesterday, which was rebroadcast this morning, Assistant Commissioner Ian Queeley, who has the responsibility for Crime, confirmed that an individual is in custody.

Walters was shot in Park Street, East Basseterre in the vicinity of National Housing Corporation (NHC) shortly after midnight on Friday (Jan. 20).

According to reports, the 16-year-old was found lying on Park Street in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

When SKNVibes visited the crime scene on the morning of the incident, one of the officers said that “no stone will be left unturned in this shooting incident”.
