By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

Police charge four for various offences

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO male juveniles are to soon appear in the District ‘B’ Magistrate’s Court following charges for wounding, disorderly conduct and fighting at the Charles E Mills Secondary School in sandy Point on Tuesday (Jan. 10).

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sergeant Stephen Hector, the first juvenile was arrested on Sunday (Jan. 15) and charged with disorderly conduct and fighting, while the second teenager was arrested at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 17) on a warrant in the first instance for wounding.
Both of them have since been placed on bail.

Sometime before 1:00 p.m. on January 10, 2012, reports indicate that two masked young men, one armed with a firearm and the other with a machete, entered the school’s compound from the western entrance, attacked and wounded two students of the learning institution.

This media house was told at the time that two male students were nursing wounds at the Pogson Cottage Hospital in Sandy Point following the altercation.

However, while at the scene and also at press time, SKNVibes was unable to reach any senior officer to provide information on the issue, despite numerous attempts, but was spoken to by a number of individuals, including the mother of one of the juveniles who was apprehended by the police shortly after a report was made at the Sandy Point Police.

The PRO indicated that investigations into this matter are ongoing.

Meanwhile, four individuals were separately arrested and charged for various offences.

According to the PRO, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had made meaningful progress during the past week.

Sergeant Hector noted that Inspector Charles Smithen, Head of the CID, reported that during last week “five matters were detected in which persons were formally arrested and charged”.

The first of the four individuals is Kimani Johnson, who was arrested and charged on January 15 for wounding and malicious damage. He was followed by Alfred Browne of St. Paul’s, who was arrested and charged on January 17 for receiving a Blackberry cellular phone.

The third individual is Tara Flanders of Cayon Street, who was formally arrested and charged on January 20 for wounding Imbrookeal Byron with intent to do him grievous harm. The offence was allegedly committed on January 2, 2012.

And Brian Francis, also known as ‘Junk-A-Body’, of Needsmust was formally arrested and charged for breaking into the Newtown Health centre and stealing a number of items on January 19, 2012.

The PRO, on behalf of the Commissioner and ranks of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, thanked the public for their support and noted that they are looking forward to its continuity “as we continue to take back the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis”.
