BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 27th, 2012   –  Digicel St Kitts-Nevis Limited has partnered with the Ministry of Education in providing the youth of St. Kitts with a Mobile Applications Development Workshop. This workshop is being held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort from January 24th to 27th, and is in collaboration with the Trinidad-based BrightPath Foundation.

Digicel’s contribution of ten (10) Android Operating System handsets will be utilized by those registered in the 4-day workshop.

During the opening ceremony which was held on Tuesday 24th January, Digicel’s Customer Experience Manager, Kenneth Bobb commented that “Digicel is committed to partnering with the Government and other institutions which promote these programs to the benefit of the young people.” Bobb applauded the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, and in particular the Department of Technology for investing in the development of the ICT environment in the Federation.

As a forward-thinking telecommunications company, “the ICT solutions that Digicel has invested in, have far surpassed the ability to be able and receive mobile calls, with the provision of gsm security camera systems, vehicle and personal tracking support, Internet service through wireless modems, audio conferencing services and even the technology to operate credit card machines,” said Bobb.

While at the workshop, the touch-screen Android handsets donated by Digicel will be used by attendees to develop mobile apps, which by the end of the week, should be launched and marketed as a mobile source of information for locals and visitors to St Kitts & Nevis. Professionals in the private and public sectors, who are versed in the field of Technology, were selected as Mentors to provide assistance and guidance to the participants throughout the week.

Also in attendance at the Opening Ceremony were the Minister of Education, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports, Information Technology, Technology and Posts, Hon. Glen Phillip, who gave the feature address, Hon. Nigel Carty, Minister of Education and Information, Executive Director of BrightPath Foundation, Bevil Wooding and Digicel Executives.
