    Discover Dominica Authority News Update for the week ending Friday January 6, 2011

     

    ROSEAU Dominica, January 23rd, 2012  --  Yahoo Travel has ranked Dominica number six of the World’s Most Unique snorkelling sites. Smarter Travel, which is an online travel source for unbiased travel news and expert advice on destinations, compiled the listing for yahoo Travel.

     

    The article highlights the Champagne snorkelling site in Dominica as a must see and experience of any nature loving traveler. The article resulted from the promotional efforts of the Discover Dominica Authority.

     

    Discover Dominica Authority partnered with Dominica Solid Waste Management Cooperation on the Adopt – A –Block initiative.

     

    The Adopt-A- Block program was officially launched on, Thursday, January 5, 2011 on the Dame Mary Eugenia Charles Boulevard. The Adopt-A-Block program, a collaborative effort between Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation, Discover Dominica Authority and Roseau City Council, is geared towards business owners taking some level of ownership of the various ‘Block’ around the city.

     

    Businesses have the option of participating by purchasing bins (the SMART BIN) to help alleviate the litter problem in the City, maintaining street lights, providing man power resources for washing down streets and keeping their respective block clean on a daily basis.

     

    Dominica hosts two journalists from Sweden
    Discover Dominica Authority hosted journalists from Sourze magazine on January 1, 2012. The journalists, Mikael Bjornfot and Per Sjodhal covered aspects of Dominica’s culture and history through visits to the Cabrits National Park and the Kalinago Barana Aute. Sourze is an online news medium which targets young readers in Sweden. The website (
    www.sourze.se) has an average of 40,000 online readers monthly, some of whom pay to have their articles published on the website. The article on Dominica is expected to be published in February 2012.

     

    Dominica featured in French Newspapers
    Dominica was featured in two articles in Aujourd’hui en France and Le Parisien national newspapers in France which were published on December 25, 2011. This was further to a press trip by French journalist Cecile Everard in March 21-25, 2011. The articles, published by the same company have a circulation of 524,554 copies and a media value of €555,422. The articles featured hiking the Waitukubuli National Trail, wildlife in Dominica, attractions such as the Boiling Lake and Victoria Falls and the Kalinago people.

     

    Dominica featured in French online newspapers
    The Waitukubuli National Trail received much needed exposure on French trekking website www.i-voyages.net. The article provided basic information on travelling to Dominica and listed some activities such as whale watching and hiking which might interest the traveller. The article was published by Gregory Rohart of ITrekking further to a group press trip of journalists from France held from December 9 – 14, 2011.

     

    *Discover Dominica Authority Prepares for Tourism Awareness Month in May
    The Discover Dominica Authority is well underway for preparations for the 2012 Tourism Awareness Month. Tourism Awareness Month, which is recognized in Dominica in May, brings attention to the tourism industry of Dominica.

     

    This year’s activities will again involve the youth, the community and the media. Hike fest and other village activities will also be highlighted in the month along with the coordination of Paint-a-Thon as part of an overall beautification project for the city of Roseau.

     

    The industry awards ceremony will also be held to honour industry professionals who have excelled in their respective fields. The Discover Dominica Authority encourages the involvement in the many activities during May 2012 as we seek to improve the awareness of destination to the general public and by extension the region.
