BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWO lucky persons received diamond jewellery and a pink Blackberry Pearl cellular phone each yesterday morning, as the grand prize winners of the Digicel’s Mother’s Day Promotion.
The winners are Eslyn Bryant and Charles Pemberton, who were among four finalists in the draw that took place at Digicel’s corporate office in George Street, Newtown on Wednesday, May 21. However, Bryant, who was reportedly ill at the time, was represented by her sister, Cheryl Warner.
The other two finalists were Wilson Herbert and Julene Dias, but the latter was represented by her sibling, Astrid Smith.
The promotion started on May 1, and to gain entry customers had to purchase a particular handset or top-up their pre-paid cellular phones at least EC$15 or more.
Fairness of the draw was established by first allowing the four finalists to sit on a chair of their choice – each of which was numbered in an inconspicuous area. They were then asked to take one piece of paper [with a number written on it] from a glass bowl and instructed to sit on the chair that had the corresponding number.

Stuck underneath each chair was an envelope, two of which held vouchers for consolation prizes and the others held vouchers for the grand prizes of Diamond jewellery and pink Blackberry Pearl cellular phones.
On completion of the draw and reseating of the finalists, they were asked to remove the envelopes from under their respective chairs and reveal the contents to Sharez Laws, Digicel’s representative responsible for overseeing the draw.
While Bryant and Pemberton can boast of their wins, Smith and Herbert did not leave the venue empty handed. Their envelopes revealed that they were consolation prize winners and each received a Digicel Folding Chair.
Pemberton admitted to owning three Digicel phones and being pleased with the service he got, especially when he had to travel. Warner said she was happy that her sister won the Mother’s Day Promotion and she [Warner] would have to top-up more to increase her chances of success in future promotions hosted by Digicel.
