PAM calls for “National war on crime”

Leader of the People's Action Movement, Mr. Lindsay Grant
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IN the wake of the brutal slaying of 25-year-old Chesil Richardson of Cayon, the leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) has called for a national response to crime and, more specifically, for the Prime Minister of the Federation to “put the people…of our Federation before narrow political interests”.

Leader of the PAM Lindsay Grant has expressed that the incident, which is the Federation’s ninth murder for the year, has thrown the nation “into jolting aftershock” and thus far the Prime Minister and other Ministers of government have provided no testament of their “capacity to effectively employ the considerable state resources at their disposal to protect the population from serial maladministration and escalating crime and violence”.

The party’s political Leader indicated that the rising murder rate paints the nation in an unfavourable light and the situation warrants urgent attention. This attention, Grant said, if not coming from the government, should come from other members of society. ~~Adz:Right~~

“PAM again urges all leaders, all sections of civil society, to combine voices and energies in a national front to fight crime…When government leaders fell down on their jobs in sister countries of the region, religious leaders, business leaders, union leaders, NGOs and others in national communities were able to generate winds of change that swept away governments that failed to listen to the plea of the people.”

“How many more” Grants pleaded, “must die before the Prime Minister, the National Security Minister, and the Public Works Minister are able to come up with viable solutions to our country’s horrendous problem of  rising crime. The time has come for the people to unite in combined action in a national war on crime.”
