SMI wants to know ‘Have You Seen Her’

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER hitting the airwaves with some hardcore lyrics over the years, local rap star Gustave ‘SMI’ Smith is looking for his baby this Valentine with his new single - ‘Have You Seen Her’.

The lyricist said the single basically talks about a guy who is searching for that one special girl.

“He knows the qualities he wants but is yet to find her. The song is looking at different persons and trying to figure out who this woman will be. She could be a model, a lawyer or even an angel, it does not matter once she is the one”, he explained.

The track was produced by SKNVibes’ own Cliff Richards and recorded at SKNE Studios in Greenlands.

Smith, who has been absent from the music scene for a while, said he has been approached by many people in the past who feel that he should release more music, so he therefore went to work and so far has two new singles for the year. The first was ‘Tsunami Love’ and the second ‘Have You Seen Her’.

He said he plans to do videos for both singles and he is presently working on some ideas with Video Producer Trucapo and Team Sparkling.

Known for his hit single ‘I Stay Fresh’ some years back, amongst other popular singles, Smith has been named by many the best local rapper.

Smith declared that if he receives the sponsorship he is seeking he would release an album, as he already has a number of tracks laid down but is currently tweaking a few things here and there.

He added that the album would be titled ‘Forever King’.

Concerning plans for 2012, Smith said he is focused on making more music, completing his new album and doing more collaborations with other local artistes.

“Being featured on the 2012 St. Kitts Music Festival would be a big deal for me this year. My first shot at the festival stage will always be a memory that I treasure. This show provides for locals’ exposure and a chance to share the same stage as some of the most recognisable international acts,” he stated.

Fans can look out for him in April to perform at Black San Bang-A-Lang’s Knock Shore Night, an event he is looking forward to.

Smith ended by saying, “I love live performances and I especially love performing in my hometown Sandy Point.”
