Press Release

ST.GEORGE'S Grenada, February 14th, 2012 -- What was scheduled to be the 3rd Annual “Ah December to Remember” Concert of Sunshine promotions on December 23rd ,2011 featuring Grenadian Artistes Mr. Killa, Tallpree, Luni Sparks & Electrify and Jamaican Artistes Gappy Ranks, Busy Signal and Capleton, was short lived when one of the Generators being used by Sunshine Promotions encountered mechanical problems causing it to shutdown and subsequently bringing the Concert to a halt while Jamaican Artiste Busy Signal was into his first few minutes of his performance.

Despite that unfortunate incident, the Management of Sunshine Promotions wasted no time in informing the public by way of a media release and radio interviews the following day, that the artistes Busy Signal whose performance was cut short and Capleton who did not get a chance to perform at “Ah December to Remember” will return to Grenada very soon.

Within a matter of weeks Sunshine Promotions announced that Feb 11th, 2012 will be the date for what would deemed as “The return of Busy Signal and Capleton” and as such, persons in possession of ticket stubs or unused Tickets from the “Ah December to Remember” Concert will gain free entry to concert while persons without either will pay $20.00.

Although there were rumours being peddled by some critics that the Artistes were not returning for the show; Saturday Feb 11th, 2012 proved the critics wrong as Grenadians saw the return, as promised by Sunshine Promotions, of Jamaica’s Busy Signal and Capleton with their respective Bands LIVE at the National Stadium. The event began as per usual with a word of prayer which was then followed by the playing of Grenada’s National Anthem.

    DJ Competition

Following the playing of the National Anthem, MC Vibes International, Mitchie and Soca Artiste Lavaman took control of Sunshine Promotions newly launched Parish DJ Competition consisting of DJ’s from the respective parishes of Grenada who thrilled the audience as they (the audience) were the Judges of the Competition. A total of 8 DJ’s took part in the Competition whereby the winner was chosen through an elimination process with the preliminary and semi-final stage taking place before showtime..

    Message to Patrons

Following the Semi-Final Stage of the DJ Competition a pre-recorded video message from Sunshine Promotions Managing Director Ian “Judah” St. Bernard was played on the big screens thanking the patrons for their level of maturity displayed at the “Ah December to Remember” Concert in December 2011 when the Generator malfunctioned.

Mr. St. Bernard also thanked his stage construction crew, production and logistics team. He also thanked the RGPF and his sponsors, who without their assistance would not have seen the return of the two artistes. In closing, he announced the date of Sunshine Promotions next scheduled event in that of the Sunshine Promotions Annual Mother’s Day Concert "A Night of Love" which will be held at the National Stadium on May 5th, 2012.

    Showtime

Then came Showtime, and the thousands of patrons got the chance to witness a full performance of Busy Signal who began his performance with his upbeat Dancehall hits then mellowed down to his conscience hits like “one more night”, “sweet lies” and many more.

Busy Signal also took time out to pay his respects to the family, friends and fans of late Whitney Houston who passed away on February 11th, 2012 in the US by singing one of her popular songs “I will always love you” as the patrons joined him. Busy Signal, before departing the stage thanked Sunshine Promotions, his fans and the Grenadian people for showing him love.

Following his performance the artiste known to many as Capleton “the fireman” graced the big stage with a fiery and energetic performance of just over an hour sending fans into frenzy with rags waving and lighters flashing. It became obvious that the fans wanted more and the “Fireman” was called back on stage where he performed more of his hits before thanking the people of Grenada and Sunshine Promotions for allowing him the opportunity to perform for the Grenadian people once more.

In speaking to Sunshine Promotions Managing Director Ian “Judah” St. Bernard following the performances of both artistes, he said “I am really grateful to Busy Signal, Capleton and their managers for returning to Grenada on such short notice and I just want to say thank you to them both, their Band Members and respective Managers for an excellent performance”.

Mr. St. Bernard also said "I must again thank the patrons for their maturity displayed at the December to Remember Concert last year and even at this show as we launched a new initiative in that of the DJ Competition, without the support of these people and my sponsors there would be no Sunshine Promotions or Judah Sound Company"

The curtains came down with the final round of the DJ Competition with Metro Sounds from Gouyave, St. John’s emerging as the winner of the Competition. Metro Sounds won themselves $1,000 and a Sunshine Promotions Plaque, while the second place winner, ‘Warmatic’ won themselves $500.00. The full results of the DJ Clash, photos and videos of the return Concert can be seen on Sunshine Promotions Facebook page facebook.com/sunshinepromotionsgrenada and at partygrenada.com.

The DJ Clash will be held annually on the first Saturday after Independence Day. This will be the 3rd addition to Sunshine Promotions yearly Calendar of events. An annual Father’s Day Concert is also being looked into by the Management of Sunshine Promotions to be held on the Sisterisle of Carriacou.

The annual “A Night of Love” Mothers Day Concert on May 5th, 2012 and “Ah December to Remember” Concert on Dec 22nd, 2012 are the two scheduled events of Sunshine Promotions for 2012.
