BASSETERRE, St. Kitts:   THE Dr. William Connor Primary School is currently hosting a week of activities in celebration of 20 years of “holistic development”. The 1.6 million dollar educational facility located at the St. Johnson Village was official opened on Monday 30th May 1988 and was named after the late Dr. William Connor, founder and pastor of the Antioch Baptist Church.

The activities started on May 24th with a ceremony opened by Hon. Sam Condor, Minister of Education and continued with a church service the following day. Monday was hailed teachers’ appreciation and open day while today’s activity will be a quiz between teachers and parents of students.

Wednesday, community reflection day, will see the student body visiting the Cardin and Children’s Home. Due to over population, the school has had to increase the number of classrooms and Thursday will mark the official opening.

The week’s activities will end on Friday with a fun day and movie/karaoke night.  ~~Adz:Right~~

The current principal Anthony Wiltshire told SKNVibes.com that “this is a really great mile stone for the school looking at all aspects and not only academics. It is also a time to reflect on the pioneers who started the school.”

The school has seen six principals pass through its doors over the twenty years, the first being Cordelia Innis while Silvester Charles was the longest serving principal, heading the institute of learning for eight years.

Ervin Lawrence has dedicated 15 years to the school and is still teaching the sixth grade, preparing the students to begin their high school education.

“20 years filled with pain as well as joy, highs and lows, however we have climbed many mountains; we have overcome many obstacles, we have come this far by faith. Through it all we have made it,” said a pensive Wiltshire.

He continued by saying Dr. William Connor has been and will continue to be the educational beacon in the Village community.

A total of 367 students make up the student body with 176 boys and 191 girls who are taught by a staff of twenty one teachers.

The exterior of the school presently displays a board with pictures of the 1988 opening ceremony which visitors can view to get a glimpse into the school’s history.

Dr. William Connor Primary boasts a number of scholastic and athletic championships that they have secured over the years, highlighting the excellence and achievements of its student body. The school has also produced many success stories including Shauntel Liburd, National State Scholar.
