Tancia Bridgewater Graduates with B.A. (Hons.) CUM LAUDE

    Tancia Eleisha Alvida (Lapsey) Bridgewater

Friday, May 23 will forever remain etched in the memory of Tancia Eleisha Alvida (Lapsey) Bridgewater who was conferred with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with honours at the St. Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In fact, Tancia did more than just graduate with honours; she did so with additional distinction, thus gaining the “cum laude” designation.

Consequently, Tancia was inducted into the President’s Hall of Academic Excellence on Wednesday, May 21, two days prior to the grand Graduation Ceremony. This was the first of the double celebration to mark what her proud father, who travelled to Canada to savour the moment, described as “an emphatic benchmark on the road map of Tancia’s journey through life and a milestone worthy of true celebration…Tancia’s accomplishments were also a tribute to early childhood, primary and post-primary schooling and education in St. Kitts and Nevis”.

Dr Colin Dodds, President of SMU with Tancia Bridgewater

Also present to share the proud moment with Tancia and to provide support were her aunt, Sylvene Daveron, and very close cousins, Davada and Ian Daveron; Dr. Spencer Eugene Amory and Venetta ‘Jess’ Chambers Amory, who are very “dear family friends who have been present at practically every significant milestone in each other’s growth, transition and development”; Mr. and Mrs. Mc Coleman, the ever reliable and trustworthy guardians of not just Tancia, but literally every Kittitian and Nevisian who travels to Halifax for study or for other purposes; long-standing friend and “sister”, Simone Patterson, who flew in from London; Kimara Martin, a dear friend who flew in from New York, USA; and her perennial room-mate and bosom partner, Abeyna Tweede.

Tancia was clearly relieved to have completed this segment of the journey and is in the process of exploring the options for the future which include post-graduate studies.

She was undoubtedly moved by the outpouring of support from all present and took the time to express appreciation for those who would have liked to be there, but for one reason or the other did not make it.

She reserved a special garden of gratitude for her mother, Vida Lapsey-Bridgewater (deceeased), and her revered grandmother, Vivian Lapsey (deceased) as well as Granny Matthew, her Great-Grandmother (deceased), all of whom were signature players in the nurturing of the essence of what she is and likely to become.

Special mention was also made of Rustum and Gracie Southwell who were not at the ceremonies, but were truly supportive throughout the journey.

Tancia Bridgewater is the daughter of Alphonso Bridgewater, General Manager of the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) and President of the St.  Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC), and sister to Alkronus Bridgewater. ~~Adz:Right~~
