    One more suspect in custody

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A third man was charged and incarcerated at Her Majesty’s Prison with the January 26, 2012 murder of the proprietor of Elvis Love Shack Bar & Grill, Elvin Elvis Stanley of Old Road and another suspect is in custody assisting police with their investigations.

Charged with Stanley’s murder is Shawne Bradshaw of Parson’s Ground.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Sergeant Stephen Hector, head of the Criminal Investigations Department Inspector Charles Smithen reported that continued investigations into Stanley’s death resulted in formal charges being laid against Bradshaw.

Bradshaw was charged on Monday (Feb. 13) and the PRO noted that “Inspector Smithen is thankful for the support of the general public and has confirmed that the investigation into this horrendous act is still active and, in addition, one other male is currently in custody assisting with investigations”.

Hector also noted that the Commissioner of Police, Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn, has complimented all officers of the agency for their dedicated response and hard work displayed in the efforts thus far in taking back the streets of the twin-island Federation.

“He however advises the general public to maintain their security awareness by taking timeout to reflect on and implement the various Crime Safety Tips previously published by the media,” Hector added.

Hector informed that with a focus on strengthening the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s resolve, members of the High Command are currently undertaking efforts to create stronger enforcement measures in crime fighting on sister isle Nevis.

Bradshaw now joins fellow villager Keston Martin and Joseph ‘Galvanise’ Hazel of Bird Rock who were also charged on Thursday (Feb. 2) with Stanley’s murder.

Stanley was shot to death shortly before midnight on the night in question while driving his vehicle along the Anchorage Road in Frigate Bay.

Information reaching this publication stated that after closing his Bar & Grill which is situated at The Strip in Frigate Bay, Stanley, his children’s mother Maria Lucas-Gumbs and their teenage son Kedemar were in his car travelling along Anchorage Road on their way to his Old Road home when the incident occurred.

This media house learned that midway along that road, a vehicle that was in front of Stanley’s slowed down, blocked his path and while he was blowing his horn an unidentified individual emerged from the bushes on the right and opened fire on the occupants.

Stanley was shot and he died on the spot.

Gumbs, who was seated on the passenger’s side of the car, was also shot and shortly thereafter rushed to the JNF General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She was discharged on Friday (Feb. 3).

One of the bullets grazed his son on his right thigh and he managed to open the door and ran to a friend who resides at the St. Christopher Club.

The teenager was taken to the hospital shortly before 2:00 a.m., where he was treated for his wound and discharged.

The shooting death of 40-year-old Elvin Elvis Stanley takes the total to two homicides committed in the Federation for the year.

The first was that of 28-year-old Desroy ‘Piggy’ James of Hermitage Extension, Lower Cayon, who was shot on the night of January 7 while walking with a friend along a track some 30 metres west of his home.
