    UTS Supervisory Board pay Historic Visit to the CHIPPIE St. Kitts Team

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS--The members of the Supervisory Board of Directors for United Telecommunication Service UTS, one of the parent companies for CHIPPIE, visited St. Kitts on Friday May 23 on a Fact Finding Mission about the twin island federation.

     

    The Board members were accompanied by Chief Operations Officer for UTS Eastern Caribbean Glen Carty and his assistant Ramona Riley as well as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for UTS Lelia A. Matroos-Lasten, Public Relations Officer UTS Fayna Haseth, and UTS Management Assistant Lizette de Paula.

     

     This is the first visit of the board is the first ever by the board, who has been travelling for nearly one week to the nine different territories in the Caribbean where CHIPPIE operates, and has been hailed as a positive sign for the future development  of CHIPPIE in the region.

     

    UTS-Chippie General Manager St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Alfred Harley met the group of eleven persons on as their Chartered flight landed at the R.L. Bradshaw International Airport. He was accompanied by Ambassador Rosalyn E. Hazelle of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs who was able to brief the entire board on the current developments on going and planned for St. Kitts as the island continues to develop its tourism product.

     

    The Supervisory Board members visited a few of the 17 Cell Sites for CHIPPIE and were impressed at the size of the network. Harley also took the group on a tour of the South East Peninsular and showed some of the planned projects, as well as those already ongoing. The Supervisory Board members were given a tour of the CHIPPIE Main Office on Cayon Street and were able to see some of the local craft being used as part of the upgrade of the customer service centre.

     

    The Group had lunch at the Circus Grill and after a tour of Port Zante and some other areas of interest where development were concerned they were taken back to the airport where the charter flight awaited them. ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    UTS’ Supervisory Board President of International Affairs Jean Fayad said the visit was far more impacting than he expected. He said, “I am very impressed with the island. In fact I must say that I did not expect to see so much development on this island.” He also said it was “very positive for the future of the island when so many foreign businesses and foreign students come to the island,” as it represented the pillar for a very strong economic future.

     

    Vice President of the UTS Supervisory Board of Directors Reginaldo F. Carolina said he was very grateful for the detailed briefing he received from Ambassador Hazelle regarding the developments taking place on St. Kitts and that what he saw during his short visit was very impressive.

     

    Regarding the Telecommunications Market in which CHIPPIE is one of three competing companies Carolina said based on what he has seen “I think St. Kitts is a “very interesting market.” Meanwhile UTS COO Eastern Caribbean Carty said he was very honoured that the Supervisory Board of Directors were able to pay a visit to St. Kitts and the other Islands.

     

    He said with their visit here in St. Kitts as well as St. Maarten and elsewhere, it gave them and Management for UTS regionally, an opportunity to discuss many issues with regards to the forward movement of CHIPPIE in the region. He thanked Harley for what he has termed “A very good job,” with the latest improvements in CHIPPIE on St. Kitts and Nevis and promised continued support moving ahead.
