LIME spreads love through “Make a Wish”

By: LIME, Press Release

Teams up with Rotary Club of Liamuiga to deliver gift packages to seniors

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, February 17th, 2012 -   While Florists and Gift Shop owners were busy delivering packages on Valentine’s Day to the young and young at heart, another group of persons were on a similar mission for senior citizens.

In a partnership which began in 2005, LIME and the Rotary Club of Liamuiga have joined forces to bring love to senior citizens around St. Kitts & Nevis on Valentine’s Day.  The brain child of former Chief Executive, Patricia Walters, the idea was conceived to have the general public nominate a deserving senior and then the wish would be granted on Valentine’s Day. Called Make a Wish for the Elderly, nominations are sent by churches and church organisations, relatives, friends and even neighbours of some of the recipients.

This year, in the seventh staging, forty senior citizens in St. Kitts and a half dozen in Nevis were presented with gifts of food hampers, fans, fruit baskets and radios.  Teams of Rotarians and LIME’s senior management navigate the islands from as early as nine in the morning, bringing cheer to these most-deserving citizens.

“I enjoy this activity tremendously and look forward to it each year, not just because we are giving something back to our senior citizens, but for the sincere gratitude they express for remembering them,” remarked General Manager,  David Lake, who worked in Central Basseterre delivering packages to eight such persons.

President of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga, Peter Jenkins observed, “This is a most worthy social outreach project with which our club is pleased to be involved.  LIME’s idea to recognise our senior citizens is a noble one and coincides with the mission of Rotary to provide service to others and advance goodwill.”
