Bath resident fined EC10, 000 for cannabis possession and cultivation

~~Adz:Left~~CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - A Bath Village resident, Kimoy Powell, was convicted and fined a total of EC$10 000 by Magistrate Yasmine Clarke for possessing and cultivating cannabis on the premises of Nevcon.
Powell, a Nevcon employee, will have to pay a fine of EC$5 000 on each of the two charges. Both sums [EC$10 000] will have to be paid within six months and if in default, he will serve a six-month jail term on each of the two convictions. He committed the offence on April 30, 2008.
Acting on information, Police officers, at 4:30 a.m. on the material day, found Powell in possession of a plastic bag in which contained leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis. He was also caught with several buckets containing plants of the said illegal drug.
Samples of the plants were delivered to the Government Chemist for analysis and were later confirmed to be cannabis.
