BASSETERRE St. Kitts, February 17th, 2012 -- In an ongoing strategy to sharpen and expand the knowledge and skills of its security officers, SCASPA conducted an Aviation Security Refresher course during February 16-17, 2012 at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport where forty-one officers attended. The training sessions exposed the officers to topics such as Aviation Principles, Security Awareness, and Sensitive Security Information (S.S.I).
Civil Aviation Inspector in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Mr. Royston Griffin, one of the facilitators of the training, indicated that an emphasis is placed on aviation security because it greatly affects the economy of the Federation.
“Aviation security affects everyone. We are a Tourism-dependent economy and it is our duty to prevent criminal activities on aircraft and in our airports to keep our visitors and locals safe. When we are deficient in one area, it is a poor reflection not only on SCASPA but on the government of St. Kitts and Nevis and it influences the number of visitors that come to St. Kitts,” said Mr. Royston Griffin.
The information taught at the training was compliant with the standards and procedures of the International Civil Aviation Organization. Security Manager of SCASPA, Mr. Raymond Cotton indicated that SCASPA will continue to train its security officers so that they can effectively function in an ever changing security environment.
