BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING two years under the leadership of TDC’s Chairman Michael Morton, the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) recently elected a new chairman and board to oversee the affairs of the organisation for the ensuing two years.

LIME’s General Manager Lake was elected yesterday at the CIC’s 63rd Annual General Meeting (AGM).

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Lake expressed gratitude to the CIC’s members for the confidence they have placed in him to lead the organisation’s charge.

He names his first order of business as creating an environment within which the Federation’s business sector could blossom.

“The Chamber finds itself at a pivotal juncture in our nation’s history. Given the economic and social challenges we face currently, what we do now is critical to how we fare later on. My first order of business therefore will be to refocus the organisation on the task of creating the enabling environment in which businesses operating in the Federation would thrive and grow. That is the primary responsibility entrusted to us by our members, and that would be my number one priority.”

Along with Lake, Damion Hobson of Hobson Enterprises Ltd. was elected Vice President, Judith Ng’alla of S. L. Horsford and Co Ltd. was elected Treasurer while Scott Caines of C&C Trading, Kajola Kristada Ltd’s Jose Rosa, Everette Martin of the Bank of Nevis Ltd and the outgoing president were elected as Board Members.

As explained in a CIC-issued press release, “Three other Directors also joined the Chamber” in the persons of Peter Edmunds of the Bankers and Financial Services Association of St. Kitts and Nevis, TDC Nevis Ltd’s Ernie France and Carol Boddie of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean.

The outgoing president – according to the CIC’s release – “thanked members for their support and urged them to be resolute in these tough economic times”.

Affirming that a strong private sector is a catalyst for economic growth, Morton entreated the CIC members to oversee and promote the success of the organisation.

The AGM was held at the Ocean Terrace Inn.
