BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A stray animal proved more than a nuisance on Saturday afternoon when it reportedly collided with a scooter-riding tourist.

At about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, SKNVibes received word of the incident and was informed that it took place in the New Guinea area within the vicinity of the ‘boatyard’.

SKNVibes spoke to an individual who claimed to have witnessed the incident and explained that the tourist, who was on a scooter, was travelling from Sandy Point’s to Basseterre when a cow ran from the seaside towards the mountain-side of the road and collided with him during the process.

The eyewitness told SKNVibes that he saw when the tourist, scooter and the cow were sliding across the road and came to a halt some 20 feet from the point of impact.

The tourist, according to information received, was encouraged to visit the Joseph N. France General Hospital to ensure all was well with him, but he refused and insisted that he was fine. SKNVibes was unable to ascertain whether the man held fast to his decision or if he later opted to visit the institution or a private medical practitioner.

According to the eyewitness, stray animals were a minor problem in the past but the situation has now escalated into a life-threatening one and “something needs to be done”.
