From ‘reppin’ his city to ‘Shaking things down’… Dagah is still at it!

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – HE might be the hardest working Rapper/Hip-Hop artiste in St. Kitts and Nevis. Correction! He is! Ever since Dagah decided to get into that music arena that was foreign to the Federation, he has had his ups and downs but has still been on his grind!

From featuring in music with our top reggae artistes Crucial Bankie and Masud Sadiki to traveling to the US with hopes of getting signed, Dagah has tried it all.

Recently, he released a music video titled “Shake Things Down” which was produced by I Rep Studios and features cool visual effects by Sherwin Jupiter.

Dagah whose real name is Kwame Samuel is proud of his latest production since his last release, “Your turn to Cry” which is the remake of Eminem’s “Like the way you cry”.

That video also incorporated visual effects by Sherwin Jupiter and featured former National Carnival Queen Sudeakka Francis as the lead lady.

He simply describes his new music video as ‘amazing’.

“’Shake things down’ is one of the most amazing videos I’ve done so far; the effects are crazy; there are scenes where I’m spitting fire from my mouth, breaking down walls, and at the beginning I came out of space as a fireball,” he said.

He praised the talents of Sherwin Jupiter who is also his co-director and said that Jay Weekes, one of the owners of the I-Rep SKN Brand, gave his input.

“The video makes you want to rewind it and look at the effects again. I haven’t seen any video like that in the Caribbean. I also want to thank the H2O dancers for being a part of the video,” he said.

Originally the song was from his unreleased mixtape called ‘DJ Kevy Kev presents SKN top Rapper’, but the said the mixtape was never officially released due to several issues.

Nonetheless, Dagah is a go getter and he is motivated. He has been to the US trying to get signed with a label and was even a part of a band while there. When things did not seem to be working out he returned home.

That was in 2009. The same year he was given the chance to perform solo on the festival. It was his time to shine.

“Whenever I feel like quitting, there’s always something that happens that keeps me motivated,” he said.

He said 2010, was the birth of his relationship with I Rep SKN, a company that first began as a clothing enterprise and has grown to umbrella other entities including an I Rep SKN Music Group of which Dagah is the CEO, and I Rep Studios.

“They loved my song ‘Rep My City’ which they think was great for what they were trying to do with their clothing. So we spoke and built a relationship from there.”

As the CEO of the I Rep SKN Music Group, Dagah will be helping to develop artistes on the label in a most professional way.

He has been working with Dejour, Debonayer and E Carter. He said that he is hoping to work with Haile-J soon.
“We want to help our artistes have real careers where they’re getting paid and are on shows. I’ve been around awhile, so I had an early start and I was fortunate to be around other artistes where I’ve learnt from them. I’m finally in that position where I’m able to assist other artistes.

“I’m passionate about music. Some people lose their drive over one simple thing, I have been through a lot and I’m not giving up. When I was coming up, I didn’t have someone to speak or help me. There was no Music Group. There weren’t the different medias to advertise and promote yourself as there is now.”

He continued: “God blessed me with a good mind and good drive, for some reason something always keeps me going. Things have happened where I could have backed down and be a coward but I want to prove people wrong. I want to show them that someone from St. Kitts can do something in this field.”

Dagah said he will definitely be shaking things down for 2012, and has been in the studios with Dejour where people can expect a ‘colab’ from them soon.

He plans to do some touring and is excited about the I Rep Studios that will be opening soon.

His career will take a new turn when he dabbles into acting and will be a part of a short film.

“We have a good video production and anyone interested in having a music video done can contact us,” he said.
