Police charge Beauty Cream Bandits

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE two women who were caught stealing a beauty cream from Lucky Cosmetics, store situated at Amory’s Building at The Circus, will soon be appearing at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court to answer to their larceny charges.

According to Inspector Charles Smithen, head of the Criminal Investigation Department, Aungel Battice of Saddlers Village and Amber Caines of Dorset Village were formally arrested and charged for stealing from the store.

He informed that larceny charges were preferred against the two young women on Friday (Feb. 24) and each of them was placed on EC$3 000 bail.

“Aungel Battice and Amber Caines are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, March 5, 2012,” he added.

Shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 22), SKNVibes received reports of shoplifting at Lucky Cosmetics and upon arrival at the scene police officers were observed conducting investigations.

The store’s manager, Sanjay, told this media house that the young women, one with a baby in her arms and shouldering a diaper bag, attempted to steal a beauty cream valued EC$27.95.

Sanjay explained that the two young women were standing in the isle closest to the entrance of the store, facing each other.

He said that the one without the baby had removed a Sissy fat burning, anti-cellulite, anti-stretch mark cream from the box. She then walked behind the other woman, turned and to face her back, slipped the beauty cream in the diaper bag and left the empty box on the shelf.

The store manager also said that the one who removed the cream went back to the isle and, when approached by a male employee, asked him about another item in the store.

Their actions aroused Sanjay’s suspicion and he immediately went to check the recording on the surveillance camera, where he saw the illegal activities and subsequently contacted the police before the women could have left the building.

They were apprehended and taken to the Basseterre Police Station.
