ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, March 1st, 2012  - The importance of a government that is transparent and one that engages its people during this era of influx and advanced communication technology solidifies the creation of the latest GIS television programme titled “Your GIS Review” which premieres on all of the local television stations this evening Thursday, March 1.

The news programme produced by the Department of Information and Public Relations is designed to fulfill Government’s information and communication requirements and satisfy the public’s information needs from an improved quality of life for all.

The weekly programme will also offer its viewers interactive interviews with ministers, technocrats and other officials and provide a glimpse to Government’s upcoming activities amongst other relevant information.

This new programme is part of the department’s strategic plan to continue to keep the public informed of Government’s agenda.

Chief Information Officer Mrs. Geraldine Ritter-Freeman in an invited comment spoke about the new programme. “GIS is always looking for new opportunities to present Government information in an innovative way to the public.

Changing our approach to adapt to the evolution we are now experiencing in the world of media is essential and critical if we are to effect change and achieve our mandate as a Government department. Information is not effective if it does not result in a desirable change, hence we are making the necessary adjustments where needed.

The half-hour news programme will be aired on the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s (HLSCC) Channel 52, CBN Channel 51 and Jahphix Channel 52 at 7pm, 7:30pm and 6:30pm respectively. The programme will highlight Governments policies, projects, plans and activities within the various ministries, departments and units in a diverse, unique and interactive manner.

The premiere episode of “Your GIS Review” will feature Government’s first 100 days in office, the upcoming royal visit by the Duke of Gloucester and a look forward at upcoming events via the programmes Diary of Events. The programme will be re-aired during the week on all three stations.

Additionally, as part of this strategic initiative the department will be broadcasting all Government programmes on HLSCC Channel 52 during a new time slot of 7pm to 10 pm daily. This was established to offer the public access to more official Government information. In the coming months the department will be launching a series of other initiatives with the focus of providing the public official, accurate and timely information.

As the official source for Government’s information the Department of Information and Public Relations is committed to be a high quality, accurate and timely provider of information to the public by using all available forms of media.
