BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE 2012 Development Bank/Sandy Point Amateur Basketball League is scheduled to start this evening from 6:30 at the Sandy Point Hard Court, and many of the disciplines's enthusiasts believe that defending champions Chuppurtin Ballers would be dethroned.
Accourding to Public Relations Officer Sean Crossley, spectators and fans would this evening witness a doubleheader in the first round with Wha-Do-Yo going up against Showtime at 6:30 and from 8:00 Fig Tree and Old School Falcons would be battling for supremacy.
The actions continues tomorrow evening at the same venue with Halfway Tree taking on Deli Team at 6:30 and Playaz vs. Running Suns at 8:00.
Crossley explained that the league is being run on the round-robin format and would conclude with a playoff among the top four teams.
He noted that the defending champions, Chuppurtin Ballers, have changed their name to Old School Falcons and the team members are confident of retaining their title.
Crossley also explained that following a hiatus that lasted for a number of years, the league was resuscitated last year much to the appreciation of the various teams and their fans in Sandy Point.
The PRO stated that the Sandy Point Hard Court, its seating accommodation and general surroundings have recently been enhanced, and that he would like to thank a number of individuals, institutions and business entitities for their invaluable support, which he noted without their contributions the staging of the league would not have been possible at this time.
Among them are Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack, B's Enterprises, TDC, Dollar Stretcher, Daniel Trading, Mr. Othaniel Heyliger and the inmates of Her Majesty's Prison.
