Donley Saunders on trial for fraudulent conversion

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DONLEY SAUNDERS is currently on trial for allegedly 'ripping off' an American couple, Thorton Tayloe Perry and Suzan Perry, of a extremely large sum of money.

Saunders is charged with fraud conversion and is currently out on bail.

The trial began yesterday (Mar. 5) with the prosecution team being lead by Crown Counsel Rhonda Nisbett-Browne, while the defence team is being lead by Attorney-at-Law Vincent Byron Jr.

The prosecution team will be trying to prove that during the period of June 2007 to May 2008, Saunders used monies given him by the Perrys for the construction of three homes for other purposes.

The defence team will be trying to prove that all monies given to Saunders by the Perrys can be accounted for as Saunders encountered numerous difficulties that caused extra expenses during the time he was overseeing the construction of the homes.

To prove the prosecution's case, a total of eight witnesses are expected to testify, two of whom have already given evidence.

The trial is expected to continue today (Mar. 7) with the cross-examination of witness number three.
