Educational summit to highlight education week 2012 activities

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, March 7th, 2012  –  Educators and students will join the Ministry of Education and Culture in observing Education Week 2012 under the theme, “Creating a Culture of Excellence Through Prevention and Intervention”.

    A number of activities are planned for the week which kicks off with a Musical focusing on at risk male students as its opening activity on Sunday, March 11th at 3pm at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium.

     

    An Educational Summit, the first of its kind will be held for this year’s Education Week. It will feature an open panel discussion with professionals and educators under the theme, “Building the Local Knowledge Base for Global Competitiveness”.

     

    The Summit will focus on the challenges impacting the education system and possible solutions which could aid in improving the system. Representatives from the Territory’s pillar industries, the business community, students, educators and other stakeholders are scheduled to be present to discuss the various subjects. The general public is invited to attend this summit and fully participate in the discussions.

     

    Other activities for the week include the Inter Primary Schools Track and Field Competitions on March 14th for Division B schools and March 15th for Division A schools, a Professional Training Series for Principals and Educators from March 13th to 16th, a game Show, “How Well Do You Know Your Teenager” at the Elmore Stoutt High School on March 15th at 7:30 pm and an Early Childhood Educational Centre Exhibition at the Breezeway of the Central Administration Complex on Friday, March 16th from 10 am – 3:30pm.

     

    Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn, will deliver an address to declare the Week open.

     

    Chairperson of the Education Week 2012 Steering Committee Mrs. Jillian Douglas-Phillip said Education Week “Is about improving the sector and helping students develop not just academically and intellectually but socially and emotionally.”

     

    Education Week is held annually to bring education to the forefront of the community and encourage collaboration between the department, schools, homes and the community.
