Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 07, 2012 (SKNIS):  Some of the best in visual artwork produced by students from 16 countries across the region will be on display at Port Zante from Monday March 12 to Friday March 16th.

The CXC Visual Arts Exhibition, which is scheduled to be held in St. Kitts this year is an avenue used by the Caribbean Examinations Council to showcase the high quality pieces submitted by students for their examinations. This is in an effort to ensure that art students of the Region know what is expected of them.

Local Coordinator of the Visual Arts Event, Education Official Ms. Blondell Franks told SKNIS that the opportunity provided by such an occasion should be taken full advantage of by schools, parents and art lovers. She added that exposure to such an event could stimulate greater interest in art locally thus enhancing the viability of the field for artists. 

Provisions of free movement under the CARICOM Single Market (CSM) allow for cross border access of persons and goods in this category.  Ms. Franks highlighted this and stated, “students will understand that they are not bound in their creativity nor their scope of exposure. We are encouraging parents to recognize the potential for development and to support their children’s interested in the field of visual arts.”

Veteran Art teacher Jeffrey Joseph of the Basseterre High School revealed that categories will include Graphic and Communication Design, Textile Design and Manipulation, Sculpture and Ceramics, Leather Craft as well as painting and mixed media.

The exhibition, which will officially open on Monday at 9:30am will be mounted opposite Scoops Ice Cream Parlor on Port Zante. The venue was strategically chosen to encourage greater exposure of the pieces among locals and visitors alike.

Ms. Franks thanked the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) for its cooperation and is encouraging other organizations to show similar support when approached for assistance to enhance the development of the children.

CXC’s Registrar Dr. Didacus Jules and the Minister of Education Hon. Nigel Carty will be present to declare the event open.
