SKELEC: Meter audit resumes

Press Release (SKELEC)

Basseterre, St. Kitts,March 12th, 2012  – The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) resumes its Meter Audit exercise on Monday (March 12th). The Audit, which commenced during the week of December 5, 2011, was suspended over the festive season.

According to Public Relations Officer Gawain Fraites, the Audit will be beneficial to all commercial and residential customers. “Our goal is to provide reliable electricity supply to our customers while being responsible. As our CEO said in December, completing this exercise will get us closer to achieving that overall objective. A major objective of the Audit is to ensure metering accuracy. There are approximately 18,000 meters and each one needs to be inspected for proper installation and physical location on properties. If there are faulty meters, they will be replaced immediately."

"We also intend to implement a new billing system once the exercise is completed. This Audit will help us to update our customer billing information so that we can have the most up to date information in our system.” Mr. Fraites stated.

A Meter Audit Task Force (MATF) has been established and will comprise of two teams in this phase:

    Team 1
This team will commence Audits in St. Paul's and make its way to Basseterre via Sandy Point, and will operate five days per week, that is from Monday to Friday, during the period 1:00pm to 6:00pm.

    Team 2
This team will commence Audits in Frigate Bay and make its way to Basseterre via Bird Rock, and will operate three days per week, that is Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays, during the period 3:00pm to 6:00pm.

"We are asking all customers to assist the Meter Audit Task Force (MATF) by providing them with current and past bill receipts, meter accessibility, and about five minutes of their time to answer a few questions. If the Task Force visits your property and is unable to meet with a customer, a card will be left requesting the customer to contact the MATF to schedule a time when we can return and perform the Audit," Mr. Fraites further disclosed.
