Over 8,000 cruise ship passengers visit Monday, four ships expected on Tuesday with 6,000 plus visitors

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 12th,  2012 (CUOPM) – Three cruise ships – the fourth for the week – visited St. Kitts on Monday March 14th with over 8,000 passengers.

     

    The 3,100-passenger Ventura arrived from St. Lucia with 3,132 passengers and a crew of 1,189 before leaving for Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

     

    The 2,850-passenger Celebrity Silhouette with 2,864 passengers and a crew of 1,222 onboard arrived from St. Lucia and will go on to St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands.

     

    The 2,450-passenger Celebrity Summit arrived from St. Croix with 2,265 passengers and a crew of 972 on board and later left for Dominica. The Ventura and the Silhouette docked at Port Zante while the Summit anchored dropped anchor in port.

     


    The three ships brought a total of 8,261 passengers and combined with the 3,058 passengers onboard the Azura, which docked on Sunday, makes a total of 11,319 passengers over the two days.

     

    An estimated 31,000 cruise passengers are expected to visit St. Kitts from 15 ships this week.

     

    With the three ships on Monday, four ships with over 6,000 passengers are expected on Tuesday, three cruise liners with over 5,000 passengers on Wednesday and two with over 4,000 passengers on Friday.

     

    Expected on Tuesday are the 2,281-passenger Mein Schiff 2, the 2,540-passenger Serenade of Seas and the 1,611-passenger Thomson Dream.

     

    On Wednesday, 14th March an estimated 5,600 passengers are expected on board the 2,850-passenger Celebrity Eclipse, the 2,680-passenger Carnival Miracle and the 90-passenger Le Levant.

     

    The 2,224-passenger Norwegian Dawn docks on Thursday. The 1,627-passenger Maasdam and the 3,050-passenger Carnival Victory on Friday and the 255-passenger Royal Clipper drops anchor in the Port of Basseterre on Saturday.

     

    Most of the 31,405 cruise passengers are expected to disembark and go on sight-seeing tours in Basseterre and island wide via the St. Kitts Scenic Railway, buses or taxis.

     

    Hundreds are also expected to head for Brimstone Hill, sea and sun bathing on the beaches, snorkeling, sailing to Nevis, horseback riding, golfing, casino gambling, shopping and biking while others took time to surf the internet and make contact with friends and family.

     

    SCASPA reports 600,131 cruise passengers visited St. Kitts in 2011 from 305 calls, 84,392 more than the 515,739 cruise passengers in 2010 from 257 calls and 170,752 more passengers than the 429,379 in 2009 from 219 calls.

     

    Cruise passengers pumped an estimated EC$30.1 million in the St. Kitts and Nevis economy in 2011.
