BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE New Mentality Team Club has now opened a Car Wash which they hope will employ some of the unemployed youths in the area of Mc Knight.

The grand opening was on Saturday, March 10, and the car wash is located on the junction of Fort Thomas Road and Cunningham Street.

Chad Williams, who formed the group in 2011, said that it was one of the aims of the group since they started, to provide avenues for males in the community who may be unemployed to make money.

“I know that getting jobs these times is kinda hard, for certain people, who live certain places, were involved in crime and most of the guys are not working so I am hoping this initiative will help them,” he said.

Williams said that the guys are ready to work and will do a good job.

“We want to encourage people to come out; we’re going to do a nice efficient job.”

Just before the washing and shinning began, Father Shenouda Newman of the Coptic Orthodox Church located at the Lime Kiln Commercial and Institutional Park rendered a prayer on the initiative.

“I just wanted to lend the blessings of the church for this ongoing, mission of community unity and development, where the group is helping the youth in a good, social and positive way, so they can develop love and compassion for each other and work together. To all the persons and various groups involved, may God bless all of them and their efforts and may his continuing grace be with them to help them,” he said.

The Car Wash will be held every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a .m. to 6:00 p.m.

Williams said they would like to thank several persons who were instrumental with helping them including members of the Hope Chapel Church, Earl Clarke, Eustace Warner, Mr. Caines, Analdo Bailey, Kennedy Bennet, Island Auto Supplies, the manager at Automotive Arts, Glenford Gumbs, Inspector Cromwell Henry and Commissioner of Police Celvin G. Walwyn.

One of the members of the group Vidal Hanley said that he was happy to be a part of the group as it will keep him out of trouble and that Williams truly encouraged him to live a positive life, as he felt he was headed down a negative path.

Williams concluded by saying that others too can come up with ways to help their financial situation instead of turning to a life of crime.

“We encourage other young persons to come up with ideas to make money; those who are not working should try to put their ideas into work. Once you are serious, things could happen,” he said.
