Two charged with Prickly Pear Alley shooting

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO young men, including a teenager, were yesterday (Mar. 16) charged with the shooting of 20-year-old Shervin David of Prickly Pear Alley, Basseterre.

Charged are 24-year-old Inebo Hendrickson of Upper Monkey Hill and 19-year-old Oval Lake of Shadwell Estate.

Police Press and Public Relations Officer Sergeant Stephen Hector said the two men were formally arrested yesterday and charged with shooting with intent.

The PRO noted that the accused appeared at the Magistrate’s Court in Basseterre seeking bail, but the police objected and both of them were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Hector said that Inspector Charles Smithen, head of the Criminal Investigation Department, wishes to publicly thank the general public for the assistance given to officers of his department which led to the arrest of the two accused.

“The Commissioner of Police also commends the generalpPublic for their support throughout the past six months. He wishes to assure you however that as we as an organisation intensify our Law Enforcement Strategies in the next quarter of 2012, emphasis will also be placed internally on the training of officers to tactfully subdue, restrain and detain persons.

“This type of training is important, as it affords the individual officer a better resolve during physical contact with offenders and limits the extent of possible injury once effectively applied,” the PRO said.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday (Mar. 11), SKNVibes learned that David was shot to his legs while among a group of young men gaming on Prickly Pear Alley.

According to a police press release, while David was among friends at Prickly Pear Alley, a vehicle stopped at the junction of that Alley and Central Street and “two persons alighted from the vehicle and began to discharge their firearms. Shirvin David sustained wounds to his legs and on arrival at the JNF Hospital underwent emergency surgery”.
